"The Groom is an incisive dissection of contemporary male celibacy and sexual repression. The work reframes the traditional Chinese wedding ritual of ""bai tang"" (bài táng, ceremonial bowing to ancestors) as a distorted, absurd ceremony.

It exposes how 5,000 years of patriarchal narrative have mutated into subtler forms of spiritual castration in the digital age, while also serving as a thinking on how the choices of (voluntary or involuntary) celibate men shape evolving family structures and demographic trends in contemporary China."
